Our system does allow for all claims to be filed using ONLY the Type 2 NPI (also known as an “organizational” NPI number). This is a premium feature available to practitioners with a paid plan. In our experience this option seems to work well for physical therapists. We have seen some claims get rejected with mental health therapists filing under a Type 2 NPI number only. One thing we like to communicate with our practitioners is that we cannot be responsible for claim issues that may arise from this, though we will keep you updated if we see any issues. You should also be on the watch for any mail from payers that specifically requests a Type 1 NPI number and let us know.
